Defoliation on red maple #873010
Asked June 13, 2024, 4:21 PM EDT
I have a red maple dropping leaves from what looks like insect damage. The leaves have tiny red galls, interveinal chlorosis, and change in color from yellow to bright orange to black necrotic spots. Any idea what is causing this, it's a new one to me.

Expert Response
The red spots are galls. They are cosmetic. But for the leaves curling and turning black, it may be anchracnose. https://extension.umn.edu/plant-diseases/anthracnose-trees-and-shrubs
