Expert Response

Determining how much water to provide grapevines depends on the vine age, the soil type, your location (weather conditions), rainfall, and how the soil is managed (weeds/cover crop/grasses on the vineyard floor). The way to determine how much to water is to use the ET-method of irrigation scheduling. Dr. Alec Levin of the Southern Oregon Research and Extension Center in Central Point, OR presented a webinar on this subject. You can watch the recording here:  https://media.oregonstate.edu/media/t/1_el4g8la2

If you have future questions about grape production, please reach out to the Extension Service in your area, which would be at the OSU SOREC. They periodically have trainings for hobby grape growers.
