Asked June 13, 2024, 3:32 PM EDT

I have been seeing some yellow birds with a black stripe i think on the wing periodically in Flint. Do you know of this bird? is it native? Sorry i only rarely see them and could not get a picture.

Not very sure. It helps to add more descriptors when you see a bird. Things like
1) relative or known size of bird
2) shape and length of birds features like wings, tails, heads, beaks
3) habits where bird hangs out and sounds

With that said we don’t have many yellow birds in Michigan. It is most likely an American Goldfinch. This is our most common yellow bird in Michigan that has black stripes on it as well. It could also be a Yellow Warbler. There are a few other warblers it could be as well.
Try downloading the Merlin bird ID app from Cornell. It is free and can help you identify birds in a variety of ways.
