Hi Grace,

I can't figure out wha the problem is. Maybe Anthracnose ?

It also looks like it could be the result of some bug sucking on the leaves ....

I think it's something fungal but I sure can't identify it. I think you ned an arborist because it looks quite bad. I'm sorry I can't be of more help,

Do you think it could be Apple Scab?  That’s a fungal issue as well, due to our wet weather. The links you sent didn’t really refer to ornamental apple trees, other deciduous trees but not apple so much.

Thanks for your help!

Hi Grace,

It's definitely not definitely not Apple Scab.

I think I may have figured it out, botrytis blight;

https://plantpathology.ca.uky.edu/files/ppfs-gen-19.pdf

I know I have seen leaves like this before.

https://ipm.ucanr.edu/PMG/GARDEN/PLANTS/DISEASES/botrytis.html#:~:text=Infection%20by%20Botrytis%20and%20Botryotinia,buds%20can%20fail%20to%20open.

Do you think this might fit ? The weather has been very conducive for it.

Yes, maybe that’s it.  It looks like we just wait it out.  Too late to apply a fungicide?  It’s not a real big tree, probably planted 4 years ago on top of a removed old birch tree.  Don’t know if the decaying roots affect it.  It was very healthy looking when it was flowering.

Thank you for your help!
