Asked June 13, 2024, 1:48 PM EDT

How to treat? The blossoms seemed fine but the tree has brown running along leaf veins. Then leaves curl and drop. Starting to look bare. Many were plsnted on our block. This one is about 49 years old

Hennepin County Minnesota

Expert Response

It could be either Fire blight or Apple Scab. I can’t diagnose it for sure from photos but here is some information that can help you.

Our trees have all been stressed by 3 years of drought. We have now had a very wet spring so fungal diseases abound.

If this is the first year you have seen this your tree will probably be ok. Be sure to clean up all fallen leaves from under the tree to prevent disease next year.

Do not fertilize the tree.
