Catmint fading #872957

Asked June 13, 2024, 1:03 PM EDT

The catmint in my rock garden has faded to a gray blue. They have grown very large and I only prune them in late summer. My garden has full sun about 4 hours a day. Why have they faded? Can I fertilize them with something to help restore there vibrant color?

Expert Response

Hi Stacey,
Thank you for your catmint question. In general, catmint does not need to be fertilized. The following publication describes how to care for catmint:

If your plant is older and large, you may want to consider reinvigorating the plant by dividing it. The recommended time to divide catmint is in the early spring or immediately after the first bloom. Source: How to Divide and Transplant Perennials | Yard and Garden (iastate.edu)
