Red Bud Blight? #872916

Asked June 13, 2024, 10:13 AM EDT

Wondering if our red bud is a lost cause or if there is some remedy. Cut away the diseased branches. One cut close to the trunk shows a dark core. The photo is about actual size.

Hi Ken,

Thank you for contacting us! I am sending a link to give you information about the fungal disease your red bud has. Also, spraying with copper sulphate (check a local garden center), follow the package directions.

In the future, when you prune a branch off, leave a few inches and cut the brach at about a 45 degree angle facing down so any rain will run off the wound. This will prevent mold, rot in the cut. For the cut shown in the photo, check with a local garden center for something to apply to it. the way it was cut invites further disease.

Let us know if you have any further questions! Would you like to be added to our email list?

Thank you! Cynthia MGV
