Thimbleberry leaves yellowing #872894

Asked June 13, 2024, 12:43 AM EDT

I bought this at the Washington County Master Gardener Association GardenFest sale last month. Based on the research I have done, I think it has a fungal or viral infection. Should I get rid of it? Or just let it be and see what happens? Thanks.

And is there anything I can do for it that does not involve using pesticides?  Thanks.

Thank you for your question.  We need photos that are closer to the leaves, both top and underside, especially since there are at least 40 diseases that infect plants in this species.  However, the leaves of the plants appear to have a viral infection, which is incurable once in the plant.  https://pnwhandbooks.org/plantdisease/host-disease/blackberry-rubus-spp-virus-diseases

You might want to submit leaf samples to the OSU Plant Clinic, where they can examine the leaves under a microscope.  https://bpp.oregonstate.edu/how-submit-plant-materials

Good luck!
