Prickly pear cactus....over flowering or new pads #872871

Asked June 12, 2024, 7:51 PM EDT

Hi..I have a 4 year old prickly pear cactus...started with a single pad. This year I have a ridiculous (in my mind) new growth and/or flowering going. Some existing pads have 20+ new growth going...probably have over 250 growths coming out. Is this normal? What/why is this happening? Goy any ideas? Thanks I've included a few pics....

No idea and no answers from online research. However guessing based on other plant growth this spring, the excessive rain and early last frost may have encouraged more than average growth. The following are general information
