Hi, I live in Lincoln City and am looking for the best type of fruit bearing plant that i can grow in a large planter box with trellis. The goal is to have the planter/trellis for some privacy but would love to get some nice fruit out of it. Also would be interested in maybe dward tree's that produce fruit that don't grow taller than maybe 5 feet that could be done in the planter box/Trellis for privacy. Thank you so much. Pam Dishong

Thanks for your question.
If you want to consider dwarf fruit trees, most grow to about 8-10 feet tall. They would need to be planted in a container/planter with 15-20 gallon capacity with drainage holes.
In Lincoln City , you would probably want to look at an apple, cherry, or plum dwarf variety. Other fruits like apricot, peach don't do well with our cool, higher humidity climate. If you wanted to consider citrus, you would have to be prepared to bring it inside in the winter.
Recommend you talk to local nurseries like Blake's in Gleneden Beach or Bear Valley Nursery about available dwarf fruit trees suitable for the coast climate. Other good sources of dwarf fruit trees and shrubs would be Shonnards in Philomath.
If you want to consider growing raspberries in your containers, check out this Oregon State Extension Publication "Growing Raspberries in Your Home Garden" - https://extension.oregonstate.edu/catalog/pub/em-9180-growing-berries-oregon-coast-raspberries-blackberries. Check out the "Raspberries and blackberry cultivars for the coast" section. Also look at "Raspberry Planting Systems - Trellising and Container Plantings".
