Goldilocks rocks (Bidens) #872713

Asked June 11, 2024, 9:18 PM EDT

Hello!

I have some Goldilocks Rocks (Bidens) in planters on my south facing patio. So they get full sun. They are growing, and have plenty of buds, but when they bloom, they are curled up, and look dried up right away. They have plenty of water and I fertilize every 2 weeks with miracle gro. I also spray with Captain Jacks BT spray once a week because I get budworms and I'm trying to prevent them. I'm not quite sure what I'm doing wrong. The petunias, and calibrachoa are doing great! I've scoured the Internet and can't find anything. Please help! I'm attaching some pictures.

Expert Response

Hi Kris,

Hmmm...interesting. A couple suggestions:

1. There might be too much water? Sometimes overwatering can mimic drought symptoms, so perhaps let the top of the soil dry slightly.

2. It could be linked to our high temperatures we've experienced the last few days. While bidens are very heat tolerant, perhaps it's the plants adjusting to getting established and also outdoors.

You could consider pinching off the new blooms/buds and allow the plant to get more established (with more roots) and see if that improves things.

Wow! Thanks so much! I was wondering about the heat as well. I will try your other suggestions too. Thanks again!
