Health of these bushes #872641

Asked June 11, 2024, 2:31 PM EDT

Hello, I am trying to figure out if there is something wrong with these bushes or if they just have some kind of weather damage. I want to know how to proceed with either pruning them or if we need to get rid of them. I have included pictures from the front of each of them and the back. Thank you for your help!

Goodness. What a disappointment you have.
Assuming as I am that what I am seeing is an Alberta Spruce, I looked for some research, most of which had to do with the dwarf variety. Here is the first: https://ask2.extension.org/kb/faq.php?id=634963 and a second: https://garden.org/frogs/view/39552/
I wonder, since the front looks good if part of the problem is that little or no sun reaches the house side so one can't be too surprised if that side looks less green and full as the side that gets full sun exposure.
I hope it is not insect damage but if it is, here is an excellent article on how to get rid of them: https://hnr.k-state.edu/extension/horticulture-resource-center/common-pest-problems/documents/Spruce%20Spider%20Mite.pdf
You will notice that all articles end in .edu. That and .org or .gov will give you reliable, research-based information.
Good luck.
