New NCRS EQIP Project - Herbicide Question #872633

Asked June 11, 2024, 1:53 PM EDT

Hello, my property was recently selected for NCRS EQIP and I am preparing to start my conservation plan. The plan includes Herbaceous Weed Treatment (315) followed by Wildlife Habitat Planting (420) of 2.1 acres that currently holds a mix of perennial cool season grasses. I am looking for suggestions on an herbicide for my field. From my paperwork, I think I need a glyphosate and 2,4-D mix. Do you have any suggestions on what commercial product I can buy for this treatment? Thank you

Expert Response

Good morning and thank you for your question.  Glyphosate is a non-selective herbicide, meaning that it kills everything, while 2,4-D only kills broad leaf weeds and would leave behind any grasses.  I would think if you're trying to clear everything for a restoration, glyphosate would do the trick.

I wish you all the best or your wildlife habitat planting.

Thanks.
