Hardneck Garlic Rotting #872601

Asked June 11, 2024, 12:07 PM EDT

What is causing my hardneck garlic to prematurely yellow and rot? Could it be Fusarium and can I send in a sample to get tested by the OSUE?

Cuyahoga County Ohio

Expert Response

There are several diseases that cause garlic to rot.  Some explanations are offered at these websites: https://ohioline.osu.edu>factsheet>hyg-1627 and
http://plantclinic.cornell.edu>factsheets>garlic.
Yes, you can certainly send a sample to the plant pathology lab for testing.  This website gives information about where to send a sample and how to submit it: https://ppdc.osu.edu>submit sample.
If you have other questions about the submission you might try contacting Dr. Francesca Rotondo<personal data hidden>, <personal data hidden>, who is in charge of the Wooster lab.
I hope you are able to identify the source of your problem,
