Protecting new wildflower plantings from rabbits #872595

Hi,
I have removed all of the sod in my front yard (South Minneapolis home) and have reseeded with this pollinator mix. https://mnlcorp.com/product/mnl-pollinator-mix/ Should I fence off the yard to keep rabbits out? I have seen them eating sprouts coming up. Should I block off that areas until it is established? Thanks!

Expert Response
You can fence in the area or use repellents. Repellents need to be applied repeatedly throughout the growing season, especially after a rain and significant plant growth. Blood meal, Milorganite and bone meal also may help deter the rabbits. Alternate the methods that you use if you do choose to. try repellents. Good luck.
Thank you! Do you think that I NEED to take these measures to keep rabbits from this area? Or will the pollinator mix be able to grow despite rabbits?

That depends on how many rabbits are in your area, other yards they visit and how tasty they find your seedlings. You could wait a bit before taking measures to repel them. Fencing is the best option, but takes time and money. The repellents aren't too expensive and are easy to apply. You can watch your new garden and decide after a few days or so.
