Plant indentification #872587

Asked June 11, 2024, 11:21 AM EDT

Please if this plant. I know it’s not Queen Anne’s lace and doesn’t see to be poison hemlock either. Located near Federalsburg Md

Caroline County Maryland

Expert Response

Hi,

It looks like a type of Yarrow or Achillea. Is it in a garden setting, as in intentionally planted? There are different cultivated varieties and it could be a cultivar or the common species found throughout most of the US. Being a white flower though it looks like a native species, Achillea borealis.

Let us know if you have further questions.

Thank you for the information. This plant occurs randomly over our 6 acres near Federalsburg; the specific plant in the photo is in an area where we had sowed a "wildflower mix" several years ago. Unfortunately I have lost the label, so I don't know exactly what was in it now. I would surmise that it is likely naturally occurring.
I'm glad it's not something that I need to get rid of. (Working my way through some large swaths of mugwort.)
