There are several types of spurges in Oregon, including oblong spurge, leafy spurge, and spurge laurel:
A class A noxious weed that can be found in damp meadows, shady woodlands, and dry hillsides. It can spread by seed and root fragments, and its seeds have a sticky coat that can cling to animals or clothing. Oblong spurge can displace native vegetation, contaminate pasture and hay lands, and invade forests and riparian areas.
Hand pull: When the soil is moist, wear gloves and pull small infestations by hand, making sure to remove the entire root system. You can also try pulling regrown plants until they no longer have a viable root system.
Apply selective herbicides in the spring while the spurge is actively growing, during mid-June when the flowers are blooming, or on fall regrowth.
