Yellow flag irises #872492

Asked June 10, 2024, 5:59 PM EDT

I have a clump of yellow iris in my garden in my front yard in St. Paul (approximately 5 feet x 5 feet). I moved into the home 3 years ago and just found out yellow iris are invasive in Minnesota. I was reading about these on the MN DNR website and it says it competes with native shoreline vegetation. Since I am not on or near a lake, is it ok to leave these as is (I do like the look of them in my garden). Thank you.

Expert Response

Hi Hannah,

Your iris pose no threat if your property doesn't border on a body of water. Grow and enjoy them.

Thanks!
