I am trying to establish an asparagus bed. I did a lot of reading and went to great lengths to prepare my bed. I have a Honda tiller that is 12" wide. I tilled up a trench 12"x12". I left half the dirt in the trench and tilled in a couple of inches of garden center bulk mulch. I built a crown in the soil and placed the asparagus roots spread over the crown and back filled them about 2" with 50/50 soil and mulch. This all happened on the 24th of May, I put them on a drip hose so they are moist at all times. I didn't see any sign of life and dug one up Saturday and all I saw was 3 or 4 real fine 1/4" like fine white hairs. Is that a good sign? Am I being too impatient? How long should it take for them to actually come to life?

Asparagus can be challenging! Can you send a photo of the space and what you are seeing?
It sounds like a great start - were they bare rooted?
Sending over some photos will help!
Thanks,
Rachel
They were bare rooted. Roots were very dehydrated. They have rehydrated at least. I’ll get some photos this weekend. We don’t live where the garden is
That sounds great - thank you!
I think they may need a little more time - send pictures when you can!
