Juniper Scale #872462

Asked June 10, 2024, 4:16 PM EDT

Desperate to intervene and treat my junipers before the infestation spreads and kills them all. Arborists have been no-shows. Can I treat them myself? How would I go about it? Thanks!

Expert Response

Can you upload a couple of good photos so I can verify it is in fact scale? That will allow me to provide the proper options. Please upload a photo showing an entire, infected shrub and at least one photo with a good, clear, high resolution close-up image showing the scale insects.

I can't see any scale in those photos, but none of them are very close up. It could be scale, but it also could be something entirely different. Do you see anything that looks like the images in this article?

The nymphs (crawlers) should be emerging now, but they are difficult to see. The scales that overwintered should be clearly evident. If they are not, you have something else going on.
