Gingko biloba at 7800 ft in San Luis Valley #872450

Hello! Can you please tell me if there is a type of Gingko biloba that will grow well in the San Luis Valley at approx 7800 feet? Thank you.

Expert Response

Hello Emily,

Ginkgo is cold hardy to Zone 4 (-30 degrees F). It is known to tolerate alkaline soils, and dry conditions. Based on this information, I think Ginkgo would be a good choice, but my concern is that 7800 feet elevation may see temperatures below -30 degrees on occasion, which may shorten the life span of the tree.

Thank you and I would love to know if you decide to plant a Ginkgo and how it does in your area.
