Burning Bush question #872399

Asked June 10, 2024, 11:39 AM EDT

Hi, I have a 20 year old, 15 foot burning bush that was stripped of it's main outer bark by rabbits 2 winters ago. Last summer if filled out completely yet this year there are minimal branches that are are showing leaves, some still arriving late. Would you have any hope that this will fill out again in future years? Thanks, Joe

Thank you for reaching out to ask2.extension.

I honestly don’t know if it will leaf out.  Maybe give it some time.  If it doesn’t leaf out this year, it probably won’t.

You could try to cut it back and see what happens.  Also check to see that wherever you cut, there is green under the bark.  That will tell you if there is life or not.
