Apple tree leaves #872382

Asked June 10, 2024, 10:54 AM EDT

What is causing my apple tree leaves to do this. We planted the tree last year. It has looked amazing up till a few weeks ago. We have sprayed with bonide fruit tree spray, anything else we can do?

Hi Melinda,

This looks like apple scab. Our ample rain seems to be helping scab spread. See this page:

Spray timing is important. Sometimes it needs to be reapplied after rain. See what the directions on the bottle say and follow them, don’t spray more than recommended. Apply first thing in the morning or at dusk to avoid having wet leaves burn in the sun.

Raking up fallen leaves over summer and in the fall can help reduce reinfection.  As the tree gets bigger, have someone prune it to keep the canopy open and airy.

Hope this helps. Good luck.
