White and Black currant plants #872351

Asked June 10, 2024, 7:42 AM EDT

I planted a black currant bush that had a white powder on upper leaves and stems that I did not see right a way. I immediately dug it out and returned to the store. Unfortunately, soon after, two white currant bushes that were about three feet away showd some white powder on leaves. I've been cultivating white currant bushes for more then 10 years and never had any fungus on them till now. What can be done to save the plants? I also have some gooseberries plants and now I am concern about their health. Are there any fungicides that can prevent fungus from spreading through my berries garden?

Good Morning Michael,

It sounds like your plants have powdery mildew. If you scroll down on the information, it discusses diseases and powdery mildew. It is not surprising with the cool, wet weather we've had lately. Good air circulation is important.

Here is another link about powdery mildew in the garden: https://extension.umn.edu/plant-diseases/powdery-mildew-flower-garden

The above information discusses the possible use of fungicides.

Good Luck!
