Care and fertilizer for Easy Elegance rose #872348

Asked June 10, 2024, 6:28 AM EDT

Can you please share recommendations for how much and how often to fertilize an easy elegance rose bush? The online source, speaking about the Elegant Rose, says once in spring when budding and once again before (if desired) July 1st. The source also recommends a blend of organic and inorganic fertilizer.. The directions on the box for rose fertilize recommends more regular feeding. I searched the extension online website and didn't find the information. Also, I spray a Safer brand pesticide on leaves approximately every several weeks to avoid infestation (like last year). I hope I'm doing the right thing for this rose bush. So far, it looks good after a mild winter and is blooming with one fertilizer application several weeks ago.

Thank you for your question. Easy Elegance roses are a great addition to a Minnesota garden where we don't have to treat them so carefully like the hybrid tea roses. I also have these roses and only fertilize them with a rose fertilizer twice a year. Be sure not to feed them after July as you don't want a lot of new growth going into winter dormancy. You mentioned you spray your roses, probably for rose chafer. I also do, but Ferti-loam has a Rose and Flower Food, 14-12-11, that has a systemic insecticide in it. You apply it dry to the base of your roses and it prevents many rose pests.

Enjoy your roses this summer with their gorgeous blooms!
