I suggest that you enroll in the Oregon Master Beekeeper "Getting Started with Bees" certificate program. This will allow you to learn what is involved in keeping bees without the purchase of gear or bees. You will also learn where to purchase and what to purchase if you decide to go ahead with this venture.
You might also be interested in attending monthly meetings of the Willamette Valley Beekeepers Association. It's a good place to meet beekeepers and to start learning about the art of beekeeping.
