Hello, On one of my weedy "tree" like plants stems are some pinkish grey cocoon looking things. One of these "growths" is small and circular, looking like it's hanging from a stem, another is about 3 inches long, winding around and probably attached to a bigger stem. I can't tell if there is movement inside these structures but I'm thinking they must be for insects of some sort---wonderful if butterflies, not so good if it is some invasive tree eater. Can you identity these and advise me as to what, if anything, I should do? I am not much of a gardener. This weedy "tree" is in a pretty overgrown area of my yard, close to the house but very well populated by birds and sometimes deer and rabbits. I'm not sure if there are other less cute animals present. Thanks, Ann Fabiszak Payne

I believe this is additional information provided for a previously submitted question and should be sent to the individual who originally received it. I don’t have enough information to respond appropriately.

Thank you,

The images are not clear enough for me to determine what type of critter could have made the web type structures. If you are curious about them, keep watch to see what happens and what might emerge. Otherwise you may remove the stems and leaves which have the structures on them and discard. To know the type of tree that has these web structures are on would be beneficial since many times only specific insects will attach to a designated plant. I could not tell from the photos what type of tree it is.

I'm sorry not to be able to tell you exactly what is on the tree in your yard. I hope that whatever it is will not be destructive to the plant and others nearby.
