I’d like to know what type of bug this is. They land on us in the evening while sitting on our deck. They are hard shelled, tiny, black and fly. They look similar to the Mediterranean borer beetle, but are very black, not brown.

Hi Sarah and thanks for your question about your mystery beetle. It is hard to identify a bug from one picture... I would need a close up and some information about what kind of plants are around you. It looks a bit like a Douglas Fir beetle but I would not want to put any money on it at this point.

I kind of hope it is not the Douglas Fir beetle, as they are a very destructive pest. Good luck,
