Expert Response

Some of these questions are easy especially when we get a good image to go with it. Your Amelanchier (service berry) has a rust fungus. It is an interesting disease in that it takes two hosts to complete its life cycle. The spores to infect your tree come from a conifer somewhere in the area. Likely a Incense Cedar tree. The spores from your tree will then infect the cedar and around it goes. You read more about it here: https://pnwhandbooks.org/plantdisease/host-disease/serviceberry-amelanchier-spp-rust
