Is bark damage killing my tree? #872236

Asked June 08, 2024, 10:03 PM EDT

Last year I planted a maple tree and accidently peeled some bark off the tree while planting it. Now it looks like the leaves are not growing to full size and they're turning colors like it is Fall. Also leaves are not growing at the top of the tree. Is my tree going to be okay? Is there some type of action I should take? Thank you!

Hi Mike,

Your tree looks very stressed. Maybe it can recover though. It's probably not just the bark issue but, stress from the intense heat and drought all combined. Make sure your tree gets watered once a week . I would also lightly (one-two inches ) spread a bark mulch to help keep moisture in.

Leaves turning color prematurely are a sign of stress and you have die back. I think it has a chance of recovering .
