Permanent weed killer for large gravel area #872228

Asked June 08, 2024, 8:33 PM EDT

Does a solution of epsom salt, vinegar and Dawn dishwashing liquid really work to permanently get rid of weeds? If so, if there a formula to make this into spray. Would I apply to upper growth or at base of weeds? Or, is there a better weed treatment spray?

Expert Response

CSU Extension does not recommend using homemade mixtures of items found in home kitchens like epsom salts, vinegar and dishwashing liquid. There is simply no way to ensure quality-control with them.

There are herbicides that can be applied to gravel to eliminate weeds, however, because there are many different factors that need to be considered when choosing the best product for your situation, I recommend you contact Karim Gharbi, the Denver County Horticulture agent.
