Beetle identification #872204

Asked June 08, 2024, 3:28 PM EDT

Found an interesting beetle on a dead raspberry bloom. Hoping it's not invasive? Elongated with large mandible, metallic blue green.

Jackson County Oregon

Expert Response

Most beetles are chewing or boring (digging into branch or fruit) insects. i would be inclined to remove this one and keep an eye out for more. It may have been laying eggs or just resting. You might want to examine the  branch it is on for signs of eggs (doubtful) or frass (poop--likely). If it's the only one of its kind you see, i wouldn't be too concerned. if there is an invasion, then try removing them by spraying water and squishing them.
