Expert Response

Hi Mary,

This spots are a sign that you have apple maggots. Here’s more information:

https://extension.umn.edu/yard-and-garden-insects/apple-maggot#:~:text=Damage%20caused%20by%20apple%20maggot&text=Apple%20maggot%20flies%20lay%20eggs,larvae)%20tunneling%20through%20the%20flesh

Bagging fruit is the easiest way for people with one or two trees to protect apples from insects. But once you see the damage, it’s too late.

Here’s more about bagging apples:

I hope this helps. Thanks.
