Red Leaf Spots #872098

Asked June 07, 2024, 3:04 PM EDT

Our shrub in the backyard has recently produced red spots on the leaves. This has resulted in some thinning on that particular part of the shrub. Attached are some pictures of the leaves and the portion of the shrub that seems to have lost the most growth. Any suggestions on how to mitigate this problem?

Expert Response

Thank you for your question, Allison.  Before we can diagnose the problem, we need to identify the species.  I am uncertain whether your photos show a complete leaflet with 3 leaves, or whether there are more leaves on "healthy" leaflets.  Does your shrub shed in the fall, or is it evergreen?

I suggest that you take leaf samples--green, red spots and entirely red--and your photo of the shrub, to the Washington County Extension office when Master Gardeners are there, and can help identify and diagnose.  Here is their website:  https://extension.oregonstate.edu/washington

Good luck!
