Should I plant yellow archangel (Lamium galeobdolon) in my wooded backyard? #871852

Asked June 06, 2024, 9:56 AM EDT

Friends gave us plantings of lamium galeobdolon for our wooded backyard. I read that it's considered invasive in the Pacific Northwest, but not in MN. But it's aggressive. It would go in an area previously invaded by buckthorn, but now largely bare, under larger oaks and boxelders. Is it a good idea to use these plants? Thanks for your help.

It is currently under investigation by the DNR.  See:

Because it is a ground cover versus shrub, I don’t know if it would outcompete buckthorn. Many cities have buckthorn replacement suggests and may offer assistance.  Here is a suggested list of buckthorn replacements.
