Tall invasive plant? #871850

Asked June 06, 2024, 9:38 AM EDT

Hello, Can you tell me what this plant is and how to eradicate it? It grows in a swampy area and is hollow stemmed. It grows 7-8 feet tall and seems to have a decent root system. This is growing in sec 34 in Presque Isle county. You can see them in the back in the one picture. Thank you!

Hi Ed,

Great eye. It looks like you have a patch of phragmites, a common invasive wetland reed plant. There is not much you as a citizen are allowed to do eradication wise without a permit (especially for chemical treatments) so I would recommend reaching out to either your local  Cooperation Invasive Species Management Association (CISMA) or your local conservation district for your county to see if they may be able to help guide you through possible methods like mechanical removal yourself. I would also recommend reading through this guide for more tips: chrome-extension://efaidnbmnnnibpcajpcglclefindmkaj/https://watershedcouncil.org/uploads/7/2/5/1/7251350/deq-ogl-guide-phragmites_204659_7.pdf
