Getting rid of Imported Willow Leaf Beetle #871838

Asked June 06, 2024, 7:45 AM EDT

I have 2 large willow trees and their leaves are all turning brown. I’ve notice a large amount of these willow beetles on the leaves of my flowers. How to I prevent these beetles from destroying my willow trees and other plants? I looked into some pesticides but I don’t feel comfortable using them since the trees are in our backyard and we have pets and a young child. Plus and we have a creek that runs through the backyard.

Hello Kari -
Your yard is lovely - I can see that your willows are very important in your landscape.  It's best to understand your enemy to combat these pests.  This link recommends spraying horticultural oil to the undersides of leaves while the larva are feasting.  http://cues.cfans.umn.edu/old/Web/154ImportedWillowLeafBeetle.pdf
I hope this helps.
