apple gall? #871787

Asked June 05, 2024, 5:47 PM EDT

I've never seen anything like this--see pic--on an apple before. Lane County, healthy but old Yellow Delicious tree with lots of baby fruit, can't see any more like this. Could it be a gall? Is it likely to spread? Should I cut it and send you a pic of the inside?

Expert Response

This is a bit of a puzzler. Plum curculio can cause bumps like this, but I have never seen a case of its former such a ring effect. They inject a substance when feeding with causes "bumps". Since it is only on one fruit, go ahead and cut it open and send that picture.
