How do I get rid of grasshoppers? #871733

Asked June 05, 2024, 2:08 PM EDT

I have thousands of grasshoppers (like a plague). They eat the leaves on almost everything - don’t like tomatoes. Any new plants - cukes, beets, carrots, sunflowers, etc coming out of the ground they devour! Have sprayed some with “Sevin”, but don’t like to use chemicals, and so far that doesn’t seem like it does much good, But than again I probably aren’t using enough - I have a large garden. They like the leaves on the raspberries and horseradish too. Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Thank you!

you should be scouting your crops for the nymphs and grasshoppers to get an idea of how large your infestation is. Did you have a problem last year? If so, they probably laid a lot of eggs that are now emerging.the recent rain we have had may slow them down.

If you are using Sevin, be sure to follow all instructions and apply it in the concentration listed for the size of the area you are treating. Wear protective clothing and do not spray on windy days or when temps are above 85°.
