Oak disease #871605

Asked June 04, 2024, 7:27 PM EDT

An oak tree in my neighborhood has pale green areas on the leaves. Can you tell me the disease or environmental issue? Thanks very much.

Expert Response

Hi Alice,

This could be the start of oak leaf blister, which is a common fungus that the group of white oaks tend to get. Fortunately, it just looks bad, but rarely causes harm to the tree.

Unfortunately, it's too late to do anything, as preventative fungicides are the only option and must be sprayed during budbreak.

This fall, rake up the leaves and throw them in the trash. This disease is most common during wet springs, which we didn't really have, but perhaps the temperatures and timing were "just right" this year.
