weed & feed accidently on onions #871583

Asked June 04, 2024, 5:04 PM EDT

I accidentally used weed & feed (instead of fertilizer) on our onions last year. I did not eat any of them after that. Will the toxins in the weed & feed be taken into the edible parts of the plant (bulb, leaves) rendering it inedible forever, or do those toxins exit after a while (whatever that may be), or do onion plants simply not absorb those toxins in the weed & feed?

Hello Derek,

Thanks for reaching out! It would not be recommended to eat your onions after spraying them with the Weed & Feed. Many plants are quite sensitive to chemicals, and it is better to compost the onions and try again. https://extension.umn.edu/node/40266
