How much rain does it take to do a good job of watering? #871557

I work with the flowers at our golf club - Eagle Creek Golf Club in Willmar - and was wondering how much rain does it take to do a good job of watering? We have barrels and flower beds in the ground. I never know if I should go over and water everything or if the rain we just had was enough.
Thank you!!

There is only one way to be sure. Go over to the beds and dig down. Just take a trowel and make a straight slit, push the soil to one side and then put your finger in the slice. Quite often what we think of as enough rain barely wets the first 1/2" and is not enough to reach the roots. Also, rain can be spotty...a lot in one place and a few feet away, barely anything.
