Thank you for reaching to Ask Extension with this observation. That is a European Hornet (Vespa crabro). They are somewhat new to Michigan, but we have been aware of their presence for some time and they are not a major concern. The Asian Giant Hornet (Vespa mandarina), has not been found in Michigan.
