tiny fingers growing on leaf #871541

Asked June 04, 2024, 2:15 PM EDT

I think it's a basswood tree and it has tiny reddish finger like things growing on some leaves. What is wrong? Can it be fixed?

Benton County Minnesota

Expert Response

The finger-like growths are galls caused by mites.  The galls don't harm affected trees, so no control is recommended.  The "damage" is primarily aesthetic.
