What happened to my poor Lupin #871540

Asked June 04, 2024, 2:08 PM EDT

I have a very large lupin that's about 2 years old, planted in raised bed abut 16 inches deep on top of soil. The plant is HUGE and now looks like a deer (or something) laid on it, squishing the front center, making it look like a fan. Would it be possible to dig it up and move it somewhere else that might be better for it. I have photos of it but the computer doesn't want to down load them. Will try gain later. Should I cut it back, wait until fall, or what. If I can get the photo I'll send it along. Thanks.

Expert Response

If the plant is in full sun the location sounds fine, since raised beds usually have good drainage.

Unless the center is rotted a critter did lie on it or it was beaten down by wind or rain. If you are living in a part of the metro that got several inches of rain in a day it could have gotten too much water and collapsed. Weather events are creating new challenges for gardeners.
