I hope you can help me with the id of this beetle. There seems to be quite a few in the yard turf level and under rocks. Are these a type of concern I should have?

Hi Dennis,
Those are ground beetles (Family: Carabidae). Ground beetles are a large group with over 2000 species occurring in North America. I can't tell what species you have, but they are predators that feed on other insects, including pests, so they are good bugs to have around. No need to be concerned about them.
