poison ivy #871536

Asked June 04, 2024, 1:48 PM EDT

Is this plant poison ivy. The leaves start about 4 feet off the ground and I cannot see any vines wrapped around nearby plants. The leaves are about 4 to 5 inches long.

The images are small but it appears to be a boxelder seedling. Boxelder trees have opposite instead of alternating leaves. They also have a straight waxy stem when young, while poison ivy has hairs on it's vines. I'm including an article that shows some excellent comparison photos.

Many thanks.  I was hoping it was a box elder but wasn’t sure.  Now I just have to find the culprit that sent me to the urgent care last summer when both my lower legs broke out in a huge rash and 3 inch blisters.

Thanks again,

Dianne
