New apple tree problem #871518

Asked June 04, 2024, 12:17 PM EDT

We planted a Zestar around May 12. I just noticed some wilting leaves and some leaves dying. Is this a fungus? Is the heavy rainfall causing it? We mulched it and the ground it wet.

These web pages have information on a lot of apple problems.

I am wondering if the tree was planted properly. See this web page

Particularly if the roots were growing in a circle around the root ball and they were not cut before planting to encourage them to grow outward instead of continuing to grow in a circle which would eventually kill or cause the tree to strangle itself.

I’ll check the roots. Also the soil. On one of the links you sent, it talked about pores/oxygen for the roots. Our soil is pretty heavy and with all the rain it might be part of the problem.
