Tree disease? #871511

Asked June 04, 2024, 12:06 PM EDT

About a week ago noticed leaves wilting…now brown…embarrassed I don’t know the type of tree but got some closeups of the fruit and healthy leaves…two other smaller trees going the same thing

Baltimore County Maryland

Expert Response

The tree appears to be a Crabapple, though we're not positive. The symptoms look like Fire Blight, a very common disease that affects both this and other related tree species. It cannot be cured, but damaged branches can be pruned off, as detailed on the linked page. (Dispose of them, don't compost them.) Some cultivars of Crabapple have better natural resistance to this disease than others, and like many plant diseases, the spread and severity of infection can vary from year to year based on weather patterns.

Thank you so much! That definitely sounds like that’s it…am trying to get a tree person to come remove the infected parts as they are too high for us to get. Again, thanks so much for such a wonderful resource,
