Plant ID #871473

Asked June 04, 2024, 10:11 AM EDT

Please help me identify this plant. It grows as a tall (5-7') shrub and I think it might be a viburnum. If it is a viburnum, which type/variety, and does it flower on old or new growth? Thank you.

Lucas County Ohio

Expert Response

Good morning. I sent three (3) photos yesterday with my question. Photo 1 was of foliage only from a shrub that was not in bloom. Photos 2 and 3 were both from a different shrub that was in bloom. I originally thought both shrubs were the same, but upon closer examination of the leaves, they are not the same. The leaves in photo 1 are serrated; the leaves in photos 2 and 3 are not serrated.

Good morning: Unfortunately, my computer won't let me open the photos (.png files) which seems to be a Windows 11 issue (sorry).

If you think it's viburnum, there are about 200 species of viburnum and horticulturists have bred many more varieties.

Here are two links with photos showing the variety of form and flowers found in Viburnum spp. and Ohio native Viburnum spp.

I hope this helps you confirm your identification.
